Unfortunately, time and nature are on the side of these environmental weeds and we as people have also been to blame. From roadside dumping of garden rubbish, to letting our home gardens spread to a point beyond being able to maintain them and generally not caring about what is happening on the other side of the fence. Much of this work NEEDS to start at home . . . . in our own back yards, so that we can prevent these weeds spreading into our significant and natural areas.
Methods of pest plant control range from hand-pulling, cutting and stump-treating, to foliar spraying and drilling and injecting herbicide. MADCS are Growsafe and Approved Handler certified.
By eradicating the pest / environmental weeds and conserving the natives that are currently in this space, we can help encourage the native regeneration at a much quicker pace.
Depending on your goals and resources, our level of involvement can be altered to suit you, e.g. we can run the whole project from start to finish, or allocate specific tasks that are suitable for community group volunteers.
There are some weeds that can be beneficial to helping this process i.e. gorse. Over time we have become used to living with gorse, but did you know it can also aid in vegetation restoration much like our native manuka does, as a nursery plant. Gorse will eventually get shaded out by the native bush. We will however eradicate gorse from areas that you would not like to see it e.g. from within boundaries of a bush track or within sight of your favorite garden spot for instance.
